Tutorial: Wax Symbol
page 1

Now create a new layer and call it INNER RIM.
Now on the INNER RIM layer once again using the marquee tool create another circle just inside the border.
Go to Edit/Stroke to create a circle. Mine was 4 pixels wide. After creating the line load the selection of INNER RIM.
Go back to the channels layer and create another Alpha layer just like we did for the BORDER. After doing that use gaussian blur again to attain the 3D effect. I used 3,2,1 this time.
The finished circle should look about like this.
Now go back to INNER RIM layer so we can start to apply the lighting effects to the circle we just created.
Use the same settings as before but make sure to change the texture channel to ALPHA 2 that we just created.
After applying the lighting effects right click the BORDER layer and go to Copy Layer Style. This saves us from having to remember all the settings.
Now select the INNER RIM layer and just right click and do Paste Layer Style.
After pasting the layer style to INNER RIM this is how your file should look.
Now onto the last steps of the Monogram. Choose some letter, usually old style script style fonts work out quite nicely, but make sure they aren't too thin in places or they bevel a little strange at times. This creates a new layer in my example it will be called N.
Now rasterize the layer and then load the selection layer N.
This should look familiar by this point. After you l load the selection create ALPHA 3 in the channel palate.
Once again apply the gaussian blurs of your choice. If you will notice the middle line of the N is a little darker than I might like but I decided to give it a try. This is why the thin script texts with heavy lines mixed in are a little problematic.
Onto the lighting effects again. Go to Filter/Render/lighting effects and just use the light you have for the other two effects. Make sure though to use ALPHA 3 in the texture channel.
After applying the lighting effects just select the N layer again and paste the layer style like we did for the INNER RIM layer.
That's about how it should look afterwards.
Just unhide the WAX BACK layer and bam your all finished except for tweaking the bevels and drop shadows to your hearts content.

Here you can see I changed the highlights a bit to achieve a slightly different effect the settings for this one are the next two pics. Now i did use the same layer style for the whole thing but you can mix and match until you are happy with what you have gotten. I hope this has helped you and please if you have any questions or comments feel free to e-mail me. ^_^
